At Carrier 3PL we send and receive 100’s of pallets and take great pride in our wrapping skills. So, to avoid your pallets looking like this delivery, here are our top tips…..
- Use the correct size pallet for your cargo. You want your cargo to fill the length and width of the pallet where possible.
- Always stack your pallet evenly with the heaviest boxes at the bottom – nobody wants a squashed box!
- Is your cargo very fragile? If so, use corner protection to protect against bumps in transit.
- Wrap your cargo to the pallet. Straps work very well for this but aren’t always needed. Ensuring that you have a few layers of pallet wrap around the bottom of your pallet, onto your first layer of boxes minimises movement in transit. You don’t want your cargo slipping off its pallet.
- Keep your pallet wrap tight. Baggy pallet wrap allows for movement and damage.
- Remember the top of your pallet. They will inevitably go outside during the loading and unloading processes, wrap the top of your pallet to stop any rain from getting in. Or use a sheet of plastic on the top to protect against the elements.
Finally, remember to tell your haulier if the pallet is stackable or not. If you have items that would crush, you don’t want another pallet being put on top of yours during transport.
